What Is the Hierarchy in the Orthodox Church?

by Generous Orthodoxy on November 5, 2010

Like how the Roman Catholic Church has: The Pope>Cardinals>.. etc

Would would the hierarchy be in the Orthodox Church?

In the Catholic Church the highest level would be Christ who is the high priest then the laity, deacons, priests, bishops and the least of all the Pope who is the servant of the servants of God. It would be the same for the Orthodox except they do not recognise the Pope as the leader of the Bishops . Instead they have several Patriarchates. God bless!

Bishops are all equal- heover there are some designated as patriarch archbishop and Metroplitans.
Those with such titles simply chair a council- like the Russian Orhtodox church or the OCA forexample and only have one vote.

Jesus Christ > Ecumenical Council > each of the Holy Synods

Each of the 15 (or 14 – that’s debatable) local Orthodox Churches is governed independently by own Holy Synod which is presided by a bishop with a title of (patriarch, metropolitan or archbishop – depends on the country).
